When a new patient calls for an appointment we always ask about insurance info. it will be very helpful if there is a place for it instead of writing it in the appointment note or write it on a paper and it can be lost. also it will be very helpful when we add the appointment to the family file, to be automatically add as the patient's personal info

Yes! This has been a topic of discussion for our office for months on how to go about efficiently getting New PTs in and setting up the Fam File before having the services added into the Chart to balance speed with accuracy. We do not pre-load services in the appointment as we add them during the appointment when they are being performed. If the services are added into the Chart before the Insurance is setup in the Fam File the services will be set tp the UCR fees which causes quite a bit in correction time.
As getting all information for an insurance can take a while (especially if you have to call the insurance co.), having to write some of it down on paper or in the appointment window, and having to coordinate adding the insurance in the Fam File before services are added into the Chart can be avoided if we can set the insurance with the New PT appointment.

I totally agree that this would be beneficial. Sometimes the patient wants us to have the information before they come in so we can verify benefits for them. Also, being able to add the date of birth when setting up a new patient would be helpful.

Dentrix I-2332 suggests to add “New patient” as a status in the family file. I think this would solve most of these issues. You may want to vote for that.
It would be helpful to add the DOB and insurance information fields when adding a new patient
