When we no charge a procedure or give a discount, we want our patients to see on their ledger how much was discounted, instead of it displaying a $0 fee. We're forced to zero them out because when we submit to insurance, the discounted fee has to be reflected in the claim. However, the patient won't see on the ledger the amount that was discounted for the procedure.
Ideally, we'd like to post the procedure with its original amount, and then enter another line with the discount amount. This way, the patients sees the value of the discount clearly.
