Auto Inactivate Patients in Tasks Scheduler? Or just stop using the Inactive patient status altogether?

Dentrix has the extra patient status that no other PMS has. "Inactive". Right now, there are 4 patient status options. Active, Inactive, Non-Patient, and Archived. None of the third-party patient communications companies seem to be able to read the Inactive patient status, lumping together inactive and active into their internal active category. They seem to rely solely on last visit date. What is the purpose of having to manually change this for every single patient manually? Should there be a setting in Reports and Tasks Scheduler that will mark patients from active to inactive automatically if they are not seen after a certain number of months, as determined by practice? Or is this feature outdated and no longer of any use?
