You can already do this by Merging Patients. It works great most of the time, but randomly we get a weird balance on the account after the merge, so be aware!
After ensuring that they are actually the same patient ,,,, Easiest way to accomplish this is to do a 'Merge Patients'. Make sure all of the listed information is correct. Make sure to record all Dexis file numbers so that they may also be joined together.
This is very important to be able to merge accounts. Due to old staff not getting the proper information when scheduling a new patient, because of how you have to schedule a new patient. The system should alert you that there is a matching name and dob. Which would then make you search for the patient. If it is not a duplicate patient, then you simply add them. If not then you just create a new patient with all the information needed for a new patient, (NOT WHAT YOUR SOFTWARE ALLOWS) getting Name, DOB, Number, address, email, insurance information.
When I asked recently I was told that due to "legaliities" you could not do it, but the work around was to print everything (ledger, chart etc) and then delete everything (which you cannot do) and then MANUALLY reenter into the correct patient. Uh, hello that would cause more problems than just being able to merge people together. And if other PMS can do it, so can dentrix.
This feature would allow us to get rid of duplicates if we could transfer the information to the correct file and delete the duplicate one. Right now once xrays are taken and progress notes are entered it will not let us delete the duplicate patient. We can merge them together into one file but we have to put a patient alert to let us know which file not to use that is the oldest one.
Our dentist recently purchased another dental office adjacent to us. Technicians merged the Dentrix databases together from the two offices. We now have many many duplicate patient accounts now. Nightmare of posting to the wrong accounts etc. Please consider implementing this need ASAP. Thank you.
Please make this easier to do!!! Yes, there are too many non-patient accounts we have and once we need to do it, there are too many steps. Please simplify. Thank you!!
Will I be notified when this request is implemented? As a practice that absorbed other practices in our area we have so many duplicates, even triplicates. This would be a huge help for me.
This is a HUGE issue, especially for multi-provider practices. Many patients, are hesitant to give SSN these days. Dentrix needs to figure out a way to run validation on other fields like name + birthday to alert of potential duplicate family files. And the fact that there's no way to merge/resolve duplicates in Dentrix G6/7 is very disappointing.
