Sort options for procedures

In the Treatment Plan Case Setup, allow users to choose whether to sort procedures by tooth number, procedure code, visit, status, etc. Also allow users to click on the column headers to change the sorting. Use sort options for the reports.

I just want to have the option to print the treatment plan in the order that I enter the proceedures. Being a specialty practice, several aspects of implant planning and treatment are confusing enough for patients. To then have them go over it out of order can confuse them even more.

The items appear in the initial reasons box based on the order they are entered in the definitions list. Simply change the order in definitions based on the order you would like in the intial reasons box. Any intial reasons attached to an appointment may need to be re-attached.

Agreed! Just having this problem with our treatment planner. We would like to see this change as well!

Very confusing for the patient! Easy Dental made the breakdown easy to read for the patient and not confusing at all!

Lina, you can assign the procedures to "Visit" numbers to determine the order of appearance. Doing so may change the way Dentrix sees the insurance estimate (looking at the most expensive procedure in the "first visit" to calculate the deductible), so double check / watch out for that if you try this option.

Treatment planner looking at "highest cost procedure" is definetly very confusing to the patient. I agree, this should be changed to run as WE put it in not my cost of procedure.

I think sorting has been highly overlooked by the development team and is a pervasive problem that exists in Dentrix. Yes, Dentrix is a database, and I get that there are certain ways a database works, but that is all background stuff. Practitioners need to work in the foreground and sorting is huge when it comes to staying organized. The fact that sorting controls aren't user configurable has caused me a large number of problems throughout the software. It is very hard to function when one module sorts the procedures one way, another module sorts them another way and so on and so forth. A large part of the problem is caused because Dentrix relies on its own set of internal rules when it comes to sorting data, rather than allowing the user to view and present that data in a way that makes the most sense to him/her. Here are some key areas when I have run into sorting nightmares: 1) In the appointment book, treatment plans don't show up in the same order set by the user in the treatment planner when scheduling appointment visits. I not only painstakingly set visits for procedures, but move cases up and down depending on what order I am going to approach them. The appointment book could care less about this sort and shows the cases and their procedures in a completely different order (I am assuming in the order things were entered). In either case, the current system just doesn't work, and seemingly was never designed with the intention to work in a meaningful way. Speaking of sort order based on the way things were entered, this is a ludicrous methodology. It (unnecessarily) forces the user (be it the doctor, assistant or hygienist) to enter procedures in a very calculated way. This simply isn't possible to follow consistently, especially when multiple people are being relied on to do the same job. 2) The ledger, while recently upgraded to allow sorting by column, still doesn't allow customization based on how the user wants to view the data. Unlike the progress notes, where we can either follow a built-in set of rules - the default sort, or choose our own 3 tiered hierarchy (why stop at 3 anyway), the ledger sorts in either a random nature (first bits of data to reach the ledger) or by how the procedures were initially entered. The ledger seems like a pretty obvious place to allow user configuration, since it is hard enough to read and follow the Dentrix Ledger anyway. The fact is, we are busy enough with stuff to do in the office. We don't have time to enter data in a specific order so that the final sort is to our liking. In my experience, even when I do try to follow this insane path, it still doesn't give me what I want. I want to be able to sort the ledger in a way that is systematic and organized (lower numbered teeth before higher numbered teeth treated on a given day, tx with no tooth before tx with teeth, lower codes before higher codes, so long as teeth numbers don't supercede that rule...) I get that it is possible that certain procedures might need to be submitted to insurance first without regard to teeth numbers or code, but this type of thing should all be handled by Dentrix in the background. Software is supposed to make your life easier, not more confusing. Dentrix should be smart enough to know which procedures to send off to insurance so insurance sees them first without regard to the way the data is sorted and presented within our ledger. As far as I am concerned, the ledger is for our viewing purposes so that we can manage a patient and/or family balance. It should be presented in the easiest and most systematic way possible to make this happen. The basic fact of the matter is that sorting and data presentation has been and still is a huge issue in Dentrix. I really hope this issue gets addressed in a timely and meaningful way.

When choosing which procedures will be done at a particular appointment, certain items should show first on description line so when the schedule is printed, the most important things are visible. For example, premed and N2O should show first on the appointment description line, followed by restorative procedures and lastly sealants.
