Allow saving Word document edits directly in Dentrix Document Center

in the Dentrix Document Center, Word documents can only be attached — not opened, edited, or saved after changes. Currently, if we need to update a document, we have to edit it outside of Dentrix and then reattach the new version, which is time-consuming and inefficient.

It would be very helpful if Dentrix allowed:

  • Opening Word documents directly from the Document Center.

  • Editing and saving changes to the same file without reattaching.

  • Keeping all revisions under the same document entry to avoid duplicates.

This feature would make it easier to manage and update letters, consent forms, and other office documents efficiently.

Ideally, the feature would:

  • Automatically update the existing document when edits are saved.

  • Include an option for “Save As New Version” for version control.

  • Work seamlessly with Microsoft Word’s autosave or quick-save functions.

This enhancement would streamline workflow, reduce redundancy, and prevent data loss — especially for dental offices that regularly update treatment letters, insurance narratives, or patient correspondence in Word format.
