You are able to search by DOB, it's just in a different tab, when you are in the 'search menu' at the very top there are three 'tabs', one is "search by", another is "appointments" and the last one is "Advanced Search" and there you can find someone by their DOB. However, it would be nice if it could be included in the main search menu that pops up by default!!
