The new feature to allow us to select insurance subscribers from a separate family file would be an amazing tool if it worked correctly. We recently decided to use it since we have an orthodontist and adult patient still under mom or dad's plan to avoid balance confusion. Currently the clearinghouse is changing the patient to the subscriber because box 18 on the claim form is checked as "Self" instead of "spouse/child/other". In the family file for the actual patient, "self" is not even an option to select, it auto selects "other". This is creating a huge issue as we have to submit a new PRINTED claims and manually correct box # 18 as well as contact the insurance company whose now requesting a refund for overpayment. This should be corrected asap or removed as a feature.
We are also having this problem.
Additionally, some 3rd party insurance submission programs will see the "Self" and automatically fill the subscriber's information into the patient fields, resulting in claims being sent for parents rather than dependent children.
