"Louisa Carman Medical Debt Relief Act," which will take final effect on July 22, 2025 for the State of NJ.
1. Mandatory Statement for Patient Communications: As a medical creditor, you are now required to include the following statement, in 14pt bold font, on any communication sent to a patient in the course of attempting to collect a medical debt where the date of service is on or after July 22, 2024: "We have not reported the debt to a consumer reporting agency and that if the debt, or any part of it, has been reported to a consumer reporting agency, the portion reported is void." Please ensure all relevant patient communications are updated to include this exact wording by July 22, 2025.
