Look into Comlite Systems - they have a paging system that includes individual/group chats. Very helpful for us. The window has several buttons that you can assign to each provider/OP or for individual functions.
In our office, when hygiene is ready for an exam, they click on their button and it lights/pops up over every Dentrix module. It has a built-in feature to show who was ready first and solid vs flashing lights that we use as "when you're available" vs "asap/Ive been waiting" for exams. It's very customizable for your needs, we've changed ours two or three times in the last few years.
You buy the license, its not a monthly charge. Only had to call tech support once, to add another workstation.
