Our patients who register for Patient Portal access through Ident.com regularly contact us to state that the password they created 'does not work'. The issue is that the Portal limits the password length to only 9 characters, and does not notify the user during registration that their desired password is being truncated. It is actually a huge problem and discouraging patients from using the feature.
I propose that you simply revise the password creation procedure so a) the passwords can be longer, and/or b) the page alerts the user when the password field is full.
