In our practice, patients 18+ are moved to their own Family File and insurance is externally attached. A non-patient insurance holder has no indicators on their family file that their information is being utilized by other active patients. There is no safety net advising admin that the non-patient's information is being used by one, two, even three different accounts. We do not want to add three non-patients to our Dentrix database (one on each adult dependent as an insurance holder). When these non-patients are purged/archived, the insurance is removed from being externally connected to the adult dependent (resulting in the active patient appearing to have no insurance, causing miscommunications and additional insurance verification work for staff). Non-patient status is not specific enough and an additional patient-type would be useful. We would also appreciate a way to track when a profile is being used for insurance benefits externally and who is using it (we do not want to add more flags on accounts and last names change all the time, or names do not match between subscribers & dependents). We've also learned that externally connected insurance does not pull patients on the Insurance Carrier & Patient List/Report (only subs and dependents on the same Family File generate).
