“Underexposed, Sharp. Consider Review or Retake.” “Missing Partial.” Two giant red exclamation banners screaming on the screen like the software just caught us committing malpractice in real time.
Because nothing builds patient trust quite like letting them read, in bold letters, that their radiograph is garbage and we might have to nuke them again. Patients love being reminded they’re being exposed to radiation—especially when an algorithm is loudly implying the first dose was wasted. “So… you messed it up?” is now the new small talk while they’re still in the chair.
And the best part? There’s no off switch. No “hide AI judgment” toggle. No “please stop publicly shaming my staff” setting. The AI is always watching. Always rating. Always ready to make the entire team hold their breath every time someone hits the exposure button, wondering if today’s image will earn them a participation trophy or a public execution.
We went to dental school for this. Years of training, clinical judgment, and actual human expertise… now reduced to waiting for a software pop-up to tell us we’re bad at our jobs.

This has proven to break the trust built between the patient and the staff, in an office that many people are already nervous in. And let's add...the software engineers who have NEVER sat in an operatory with a patient explaining why this is a good idea, and why it's not actually accurate.
Agreed!! AI just slows down our programs that are already limping along, and of course confuses insurance companies and causes more and more denied claims.
I'm not sure, but you may be able to disable these in the Smart Image.ini file. (If it's in Dentrix Image, then it might be elsewhere.)
Fortunately, I haven't seen these pop up on our end, but we are about to install a Dentrix update so maybe we're about to join the club. You might consider checking:
